Adopt Joe Black

Mixed Breed · Male

A pearl from Curacao has flown into our shelter. What a feisty one is Joe Black. In his first year of life, he lived on a chain, but luckily he was set free after that. It’s not always a given that it’s good for a dog on Curacao, but luckily there are many loving volunteers who take in the fate of the dogs and care for them on the streets or at their homes. So Joe Black was also neutered via a volunteer project. He had the misfortune that his owner passed away, and he and three other companions became alone again. Luckily, our heroine Mimi came to the rescue. She fed them for half a year, until the house where they lived in the garden was sold. This means that the dogs had to hit the streets, like so many on Curacao. Luckily, the network on Curacao is tight, and after Mimi rescued this lovely fellow from the street, he was placed in a foster family. This went fantastically. By now, we were already head-over-heels in love with Joe Black and had already secretly indicated that he could come to the Netherlands. So, he took the plane and is now comfortably with us, by the fire. Joe Black is truly a fantastic dog. From day one, he behaves impeccably, walks perfectly on a leash, and is super social. What a wonderful dog. And because he’s so fantastic, we’re also giving him a fantastic owner. An owner who understands that he has a past on Curacao, even if we don’t see much of it. An owner who will go all out for him, simply because he deserves it more than anything. Are you that owner, or do you know someone looking for a “black pearl”? Let us know that Joe Black is available for the right person. For more information, you can find us. Call: 06-50800245 or fill out the form:

Gelukkig was daar onze heldin Mimi. About Joe Black

What life with Joe Black looks like

Joe Black is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Stichting Huis voor Dieren in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joe Black, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joe Black?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Huis voor Dieren handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joe Black on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joe Black if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Huis voor Dieren will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joe Black already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joe Black isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Huis voor Dieren early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joe Black and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
