Adopt Johny

Mixed Breed · Male

Johny is a brave dog who has experienced a lot of pain. He was found after a train accident in the Košice-Juh district, suffering serious injury to his left hind leg. Unfortunately, it had to be amputated. Despite this, Johny did not give up! After a month of hospitalization at the veterinary clinic UVLf in Košice, he recovered enough to come to us at the shelter. Johny is a dog with a big heart and a cheerful personality. Kind, friendly, and very social - he will immediately win your heart with his affection. He has a balanced character and will adapt to your pace. Whether it's time for a walk, fetching, or a quiet rest in a blanket, Johny will adapt and be your loyal companion. He loves fetching, playing and having fun - his disability does not hinder him in anything. This grateful dog deserves a family that will provide him with a real home. He will love pleasant trips in nature, swimming in streams and playing around with his family. Your time spent with him will be full of beautiful moments and exciting adventures. Gets along with dogs and female dogs and likes to play with them. Has excellent hygiene habits, behaves politely and handling him is trouble-free. Johny is looking for an active, loving family that will take him as a family member. He is looking for a home in an apartment, or a house with access to a yard.

About Johny

What life with Johny looks like

Johny is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ÚVP Košice in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Johny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Johny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ÚVP Košice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Johny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Johny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ÚVP Košice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Johny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Johny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ÚVP Košice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Johny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
