Jokka

Female · Adult · 9 years

At first glance, Jokka may seem like a wild and distrustful cat. In the animal shelter, she hides and tries to keep people at a distance. However, this is not her true nature – it's just a reaction to a huge loss and fear. Jokka is 8 years old and came to the animal shelter from a home where she was loved. The loss of a familiar place and a close person was a huge shock for her. Today her world has collapsed, so she defends herself as best she can – avoiding contact. This cat needs a calm, patient home, where no one will expect immediate closeness. In safe conditions, with a kind and understanding caregiver, Jokka has a great chance to trust again and remember that humans mean warmth, not danger. Already now, during petting, she offers her nose, although she is very scared, and she enjoys these moments of affection. Give her time, silence, and a sense of security, and Jokka will repay you with the best – a real, deep feline bond. This is not a "difficult" cat. This is a cat who really needs a second chance. We invite you to review the pre-adoption questionnaire: Before adoption, make sure your home/apartment is safe and properly prepared to welcome a new family member. Note: If you decide to adopt a cat or are considering it, be sure to bring a carrier or transport bag to the animal shelter for transporting cats.

PL·Show original

Kocia behawiorystka

About Jokka

What life with Jokka looks like

Jokka is a small adult cat waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient, quiet home due to trauma from losing previous home

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jokka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jokka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jokka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jokka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jokka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jokka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jokka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
