Adopt JoKurt

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 10 years

Our Jokurt was finally rehomed as a single cat in an apartment-friendly environment in Leipzig in May 2016. Despite his FIV infection, our cuddly mouse has convinced us... we are very happy he had to wait so long for this chance!!!!! ……………………………………………………………………………………………………….. My name is JoKurt. I am male, neutered and born in 2014. I have been waiting for a new home since autumn 2014. This is what our caretakers say about me: Jokurt is one of our kittens from last year. After his castration he was happily rehomed, but due to an illness FIV was finally diagnosed, which is why he came back to us for the safety of the other cat. Now we are looking for a place for Jokurt as a single cat in an apartment-friendly environment. FIV, the so-called feline AIDS, cannot be transmitted to humans and is not relevant for other animal species. Jokurt can reach a normal cat age with good care, his immune system is just slightly more sensitive and you have to be attentive and react quickly if something is noticed. With the help of our veterinarian we will gladly advise you if you are seriously interested. Jokurt is rehomed with a reduced adoption fee because of this illness. He is affectionate and cuddly, Jokurt really likes other animals, his dream home would be a home as a second cat with another animal that is also infected with FIV. Jokurt is a modest cat, as long as the cuddling sessions are not too short, we think he is a tomcat with a dream character. He must be placed in a suitable for apartment living environment, preferably with a secure balcony, so he can't infect other animals if he's free. Right now he lives with us in single housing, he is peaceful, healthy and absolutely fit. Children should have the appropriate understanding, Jokurt would fit very well into a family where the cuddling and play sessions multiply almost by themselves. Anyone interested in the lovely JoKurt is welcome to visit him and already watch Jokurt's cheerful play episodes and admire his cuddling talent... eMail:. This is a puppy.

About JoKurt

What life with JoKurt looks like

JoKurt is a medium-sized adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting JoKurt, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about JoKurt?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw JoKurt on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt JoKurt if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is JoKurt already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if JoKurt isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know JoKurt and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
