Jonny

Cocker Spaniel · Male · Senior · 10 years

Our Jonny on a Walk - Video Our Jonny - Course Video Our Jonny - Command Video Our Jonny and His Balls - Video Our Jonny sits the longest of all our shelter residents at the animal shelter. The cute Cocker is a special case, as he possesses two faces. Sometimes, our Jonny has a very friendly and cuddly side, but also a furious, aggressive, and biting side. Towards people at the animal shelter, he mostly shows a very cuddly and people-oriented side. Whether it's an obstacle course or learning new commands, Jonny is always enthusiastic. Recently, Jonny has started mantrailing and is showing his full sniffing talent. Towards other dogs, he is always friendly but not overly interested. Jonny knows and has no problem with car rides or being alone at home. What the past has shown is that Jonny can be different. Once he settles into a home, he can suddenly have massive outbursts of anger, where he can no longer distinguish friend from foe. In the past, he attacked only his trusted people and there were biting incidents. Resources are also a topic for our Jonny, as he defends his food, his toys, his dog bed, and even himself. At the animal shelter, Jonny rarely has outbursts without a trigger. The regulated daily routine and his own space seem to benefit him. We are therefore looking for a home for Jonny that offers structure, clear rules, and a place to retreat. Our Jonny definitely needs an enclosed, secure area, such as his own room with a door grille, where he can stay both during the day and at night. The muzzle is a constant companion in Jonny's daily life and must be accepted and continued to be used to minimize the risk of further biting incidents. Resources are also a topic for our Jonny, as he defends his food, his toys, his dog bed, and even himself. We are looking for people who can provide the necessary local conditions and are not deterred by his nature. Our Jonny regularly does mantrailing at the animal shelter and has a lot of fun. He successfully completed the Basic 1 Pettrail exam in October 2024 and the Basic 2 Pettrail exam in October 2025.

About Jonny

What life with Jonny looks like

Jonny is a medium-sized senior cocker spaniel dog waiting at Kreistierheim Böblingen in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jonny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jonny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreistierheim Böblingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jonny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jonny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreistierheim Böblingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jonny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jonny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreistierheim Böblingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jonny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
