Jonte

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 6 years

Jonte is a beautiful mixed-breed male dog who came to the Romanian animal shelter Năsăud with his siblings as a puppy. Since then, he has hardly known anything other than the loud and monotonous shelter routine. Many years have passed without Jonte ever experiencing what it feels like to be part of a family and to feel real security. Despite everything, Jonte has maintained his gentle and affectionate character. Compared to his brother Bussi, he shows a bit more openness and curiosity towards people, but remains a sensitive and rather cautious dog who needs time to build trust. New situations and strangers still unsettle him at first, but it is clear that he longs for closeness and security. During our last visit in Romania, a touching moment gave us great hope: Jonte actually took a treat directly from the hand of a stranger. For many, this may seem natural – for Jonte, it is a huge step and a sign that he has not given up hope and is ready to trust. Jonte needs people who do not pressure him but meet him with calmness, patience, and understanding. People who show him step by step that closeness does not have to be threatening and that life outside the shelter can also have beautiful sides. If given the time he needs, he will slowly open up and become a loyal companion. The sensitive male dog has never really been able to fully develop his great potential. In the stressful shelter routine, there is simply no opportunity to individually address him and give him the security he desperately needs. We hope with all our heart for him to finally find people who give him a real chance.

About Jonte

What life with Jonte looks like

Jonte is a large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Arme Hundeseelen in Năsăud.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jonte, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jonte?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arme Hundeseelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jonte on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jonte if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arme Hundeseelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jonte already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jonte isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arme Hundeseelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jonte and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
