Jorgos

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

JORGOS is a small male dog approximately 29-30 cm in height and 8-10 kg in weight. His age is estimated to be around 2016 or older. Jorgos is a very friendly and interested little fellow with a rather calm character. Due to his pleasant nature, we can also imagine him well with older people. Unfortunately, Jorgos currently has massive hair problems due to his leishmaniasis. His treatment with Milteforan will begin shortly. His teeth are also in urgent need of treatment - they are partly in all directions and show significant tartar. Therefore, a dental sanitation must take place before his departure. We are looking for people who are aware of taking on an older dog with leishmaniasis and also have a corresponding financial cushion for possible further treatment costs. Jorgos can leave in mid-November 2026. We do not mediate in very urban living situations or in families with small children. Please only submit an adoption request if the takeover is possible at the time mentioned in the text & you have already discussed the adoption of a new family member with your family (if necessary, other involved persons such as employer, landlord, interim care). Please note that the dogs described here are currently in their large-scale care facility or in the animal shelter in a limited, safe environment and have little contact with other people or environmental stimuli outside the property. The descriptions are based on the behavior in this familiar environment. Especially puppies and young dogs are still in the development of their character. For a successful settling in a new home, they need time, patience and loving guidance to get used to the new environment and the various stimuli and grow into confident dogs.

About Jorgos

What life with Jorgos looks like

Jorgos is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jorgos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jorgos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jorgos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jorgos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jorgos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jorgos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jorgos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
