Joris

Mixed Breed Β· Female Β· Young Β· 2 years

Joris is a handsome 2-year-old boy. He comes from a house with over 60 cats. The owner had no ill will, but was struggling to keep everything clean and well. Unfortunately, she sought help. The 60 cats were all removed from the house, neutered, provided with medical care, and multiple shelters have joined forces to find new homes for the cats. The owner was allowed to keep a manageable number (of course, neutered). Joris is still very scared and quite angry at our shelter. This is clearly evident when he growls at us when we get too close. Joris is looking for a home with experienced cat owners who are not easily intimidated by his tough behavior. Time, peace, and routine will hopefully thaw him into a friendly housemate. A friendly, calm cat companion will certainly help him with this! We estimate that a female cat would probably suit him best. Joris unfortunately has to live with one eye missing, but in practice, this does not bother him. This makes him more vulnerable in outdoor life. It would be nice for Joris if he could get some fresh air on a fenced balcony or in a cat-proof screened-in garden. However, a life as an indoor cat is also certainly possible.

NLΒ·Show original

About Joris

What life with Joris looks like

Joris is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Kat in Nood in Netherlands.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction β€” every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡±Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kat in Nood handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Kat in Nood will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Joris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kat in Nood early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
