Bella

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Bella is a smart, eager-to-learn lady cat who is 3 years old and came to us from another shelter. To keep Bella happy and satisfied, she needs sufficient (mental) challenges. At our shelter, she has started doing brain work, and we notice that Bella is thriving here. You can compare her to a smart dog. She really enjoys training, has an incredibly fast grasp of what is expected of her. As long as she is rewarded with treats. Because that is Bella's main motivation, food. So far, we have discovered that Bella loves puzzle feeders, agility training, and learning tricks. Smart as she is, Bella picks up all new puzzles and tricks quickly, the higher the level, the happier Bella gets. We clearly see that Bella is more calm in behavior when she has had enough challenge. Bella's intelligence has a downside, which makes frustration a possibility. When Bella does not get enough challenge, she will train herself. Smart as she is, she will figure out how to puzzle her way to all the food in the house. Both human food and cat food are skillfully tracked and stolen. This is extremely frustrating for both Bella and her owner. Her fixation on food has made her return to previous placements multiple times, and she has been labeled as unplaceable by the relevant shelters. In our opinion, Bella is definitely placeable, provided she is with a driven and enthusiastic owner who enjoys getting creative with Bella and offering new challenges. Her fixation on food diminishes significantly when she is offered enough brain work. Bella needs space in her new environment. A fenced-in yard or a remote home is preferred. Her new owners should be people without young children who enjoy daily training with Bella and are creative in devising new challenges. People who understand where her behavior comes from and can guide her well. If you are a new owner fully committed to Bella, then you will have a fantastic, loving, and affectionate cat who can build a very strong bond with you.

About Bella

What life with Bella looks like

Bella is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Kat in Nood in Netherlands.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bella, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bella?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kat in Nood handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bella on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bella if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kat in Nood will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bella already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bella isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kat in Nood early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bella and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
