Joris und Mara

Male · Young · 3 years

Hey, we’re Joris and Mara. We ended up at the animal shelter together because our previous owners were overwhelmed by us. Since we really like each other, we absolutely want to stay together. In terms of personality, we’re both very open-minded and curious. Our caregivers love how well we’ve developed and enjoy watching us closely. These days, we even dare to approach people quite closely and are always thrilled when fresh food is brought in for us. As I (Mara) have floppy ears, they need to be cleaned and checked regularly. Unfortunately, I (Joris) have dental problems and therefore have to visit a qualified veterinarian regularly so that my teeth can be filed down and corrected. Sadly, I’ll always remain a dental patient. That’s why it’s important that you have a veterinarian who specializes in rabbits by your side to ensure we receive the best possible veterinary care. Additionally, it’s helpful if you already have experience keeping rabbits and can quickly spot when something isn’t right. Do you think we’d make a great pair? Then please send us an email and tell us a bit about yourselves and your living conditions. It would also be great if you could include some photos right away.

About Joris und Mara

What life with Joris und Mara looks like

Joris und Mara is a extra-large young adult rabbit waiting at Tierheim Stuttgart in Stuttgart.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

Note from the shelter: Bonded pair - must be adopted together

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joris und Mara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joris und Mara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Stuttgart handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joris und Mara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joris und Mara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Stuttgart will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joris und Mara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joris und Mara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Stuttgart early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joris und Mara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
