Joschi

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

So Joschl, now I sit here and have to write a description for you. You look at me with your faithful brown eyes and would much rather snuggle with me. You were very well-known at the animal shelter, not because of your faithful eyes, but because of your rather willful behavior. Either you hid in your hut or you jumped onto the bars like a madman. Then no one wanted to take you out for a walk anymore because you were hardly manageable. And then the call from the shelter leadership: "Can they not take in the Joschi? He took the run-down apart overnight, even ripped off the roof gutter… We're afraid something might happen to him." I had to swallow first… and agreed. When I then came to pick you up, you didn't want to get into the car at all – panic. After a while, though, it worked, and so the drive to Gnadenhof began. When we arrived, the backseat of my car was completely soaked from your drool. You immediately curled up under the table in your new room and I had to pull you out from under it to take a walk. Almost six years have passed now, and thankfully, you've developed well. You're happy when I put your harness on, then you know we're going to do something nice. You love our walk leaders (the ladies, of course, especially) and the other dogs. The only squabbles happen when someone tries to challenge your status as the pack leader. We've tried a lot with you, we've been to the dog park, and thought you might enjoy it. But you showed us what you think: it's all just kid stuff! Hunting is your passion! In the first years, you almost jumped two meters high on the leash when you saw a deer… today, you just prick your ears. The dog walks make you especially happy, where you even accept the black-muzzled dogs, which are usually your enemies. Even though you had to wear a muzzle for the first time, you are now so relaxed that you can go without it. Even into the pub, we can take you. You will probably never become the "everyone's dog." But maybe there is somewhere the person who matches you. The one who seeks the challenge and on whom you can rely. Unfortunately, our time for each individual animal on the farm is very limited. Therefore, we would wholeheartedly wish you your own home.

About Joschi

What life with Joschi looks like

Joschi is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. in Schwaan / OT Letschow.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joschi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joschi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joschi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joschi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joschi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joschi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joschi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
