adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! José has already been living in its family since 2022 and has become a valued family member. This makes the step harder: Due to a change in the family situation, José – now named Rudi – must unfortunately leave its home. José is a friendly and uncomplicated male dog, about knee-high, weighing around 17 kg, with a short, easy-to-groom coat. He is not neutered. In everyday life, he shows himself as a pleasant companion. He walks nicely on a leash, but needs clear and calm guidance. He is very friendly towards people and enjoys cuddles. He also gets along well with most dogs and likes to play with them. As a second dog, José is ideally suited. In his current family, he lives with other dogs and can also stay alone with them without problems. Other animals are already familiar to him: Cats and even rabbits are no problem for him. José is active and loves exercise. Running, cycling, and playing with other dogs make him particularly happy. He also enjoys car rides and accompanies his people. Water is not necessarily one of his favorite activities – he is relaxed with SUP. Children in his new home should be at least about 10 years old, as younger children make him feel uncomfortable. José shows little prey drive, although this cannot be fully assessed due to the current leash requirement. José is looking for a home with people who can lead him clearly but lovingly, offer him enough exercise, and appreciate his friendly nature. José can be visited and met at any time upon agreement. José is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated and travels with an EU pet passport. Who will give José a new home where he can belong? As of: 25.04.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! About José

What life with José looks like

José is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting José, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about José?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw José on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt José if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is José already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if José isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know José and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
