Joseph

English Bulldog · Male · Adult · 8 years

I am Joseph … an energetic, very friendly English Bulldog mix. However, I have also bitten and am therefore looking for a dog-experienced home. That’s me: I master basic commands, show alertness, am very people-oriented, and like to stay close to “my” people. I might also be able to stay alone for up to two hours – but I need a lot of time and clear routines for getting used to my new home. Due to my brachycephalic features (short snout), I already have problems at around 20°C: Heat and physical activity tire me quickly. Even muzzles can affect my breathing – despite this, I must be muzzled due to a dangerous dog classification after biting incidents. However, I now accept my muzzle very well and regularly go for walks with it. I love being close and being petted by familiar people, play cute, and can really make an impression with my Bully charm. Stress and excitement, however, are hard for me to regulate – then I might bite my leash or get agitated. I can only tolerate painful manipulation (e.g., at the vet) very poorly. I wish for … very dog-experienced people, ideally with Bully/English Bulldog experience, who can give me clear guidance, adhere to firm routines, and provide me with peace and balance. Children do not fit me. My new home should be more rural or on the outskirts of town, please without many stairs (protection of my musculoskeletal system). Several kennel visits at the animal shelter will be necessary to get to know each other and build routines and handling together. Additionally, you need a permit to keep and handle a dangerous dog. I do not give up: Surely, a home will also be found for me. Maybe with you?

About Joseph

What life with Joseph looks like

Joseph is a medium-sized adult english bulldog dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Brachycephalic breathing issues, heat sensitivity, requires muzzle due to bite history, classified as dangerous dog requiring special permit

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joseph, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joseph?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joseph on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joseph if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joseph already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joseph isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joseph and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
