Adopt Joyful Jake

Greyhound · Male · Young · 2 years

Hi there, my name is Jake and I’m on a mission to find my perfect home. I am 2 years old next month and a retired ex-racing greyhound. I retired young due to an injury but I’m now fully recovered, fit as a fiddle and ready to find a comfy sofa to snooze the day away. I have a beautiful black coat with white “snowflakes” which always gets lots of attention! Things I love: One of my favourite things to do is zoomies! I love racing around the paddock but after 5 minutes of zoomies I’m happy to get back to my nap! I enjoy my walks but I love snuggling on the sofa just as much. I can live with dogs: I am dog friendly so I can live with another dog. Preferably a dog similar size to me or another sighthound. Child friendly: I am very gentle but as I am a fairly big boy I would be best living in a home with children aged 8+ Toilet training: I haven’t lived in a home before so I will need toilet training. However I am good at using the outdoor part of my kennel to toilet in rather than inside so toilet training shouldn’t take too long. My ideal home: I would love to live with another dog for companionship but I am equally happy being the only pet, getting all the attention! I would like a calm home with a big comfy sofa for me to stretch out on. Exercise: I am a typical greyhound which means I don’t actually need lots of exercise. A couple of 20-30 minute walks a day is perfect. Although I am still young and active so can go for longer walks over time, once I’ve been built up to it. I love playing with toys in my kennel too! No cats: As I am an ex-racer I can’t live with cats or other small furries. Are you ready to welcome a sweet, loving, playful boy into your home? My adoption fee is £250

About Joyful Jake

What life with Joyful Jake looks like

Joyful Jake is a large young adult greyhound dog waiting at Rain Rescue in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joyful Jake, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joyful Jake?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rain Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joyful Jake on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joyful Jake if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rain Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joyful Jake already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joyful Jake isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rain Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joyful Jake and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
