Adopt Julia

Female · Adult · 6 years

Origin / Location: Ubeda (Andalusia) Character: very nice and very friendly, compatible with all other dogs, sunshine in the heart New home: patience, time, no expectations, house/garden/yard Adoption fee: 450 euros including transport If you are looking for a really great herding dog, you should take a closer look at the lovely Julia (born approximately 01/2020, 75 cm). Julia is in the animal shelter in Ubeda/Southern Spain and not only have we come to love her over the years, but the entire animal shelter. She is one of the most open-minded and good-natured herding dogs we have ever met. She is loving, calm, clingy, yet somehow funny and interested in new things. Her cozy nature is reflected in every aspect. Especially in contact with other dogs, she is like an older sister to all. She likes to be in a group, goes for walks, gets along with male and female dogs, and can even be relied upon as a "kindergarten mom" with puppies. One could write pages more and only positive things would come to mind about Julia. Unfortunately, Julia has a conjunctival prolapse in both eyes. Although this was treated when she arrived at the animal shelter, it unfortunately did not have a lasting success. Ultimately, it is only a visual defect, Julia has no limitations because of it. As Julia is a herding dog mix, the purchase should be carefully considered. A garden/house/yard is an absolute requirement. Likewise, you should already have experience with a dog of this breed and be aware of the character traits that may present new challenges. Anyone looking for an XXL companion who is aware of the breed would have made a good choice with Julia. She could travel to Germany completely vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, dewormed, and tested for Mediterranean diseases on the next opportunity. If picking her up in Northern Bavaria is not a problem for you, we look forward to your meaningful inquiry. The behavioral and character description of the dog is based on observations by the shelter staff on site and refers exclusively to the local conditions.

About Julia

What life with Julia looks like

Julia is a extra-large adult dog waiting at Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) in Vilseck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Julia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Julia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Julia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Julia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Julia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Julia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Julia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
