Adopt Whisky

Podenco · Female

Origin: Ubeda (Andalusia) Location: Ubeda (Andalusia) Size / Weight: approx. 51 cm at the shoulder, 22 kg Additional: neutered, microchipped with EU passport, vaccinated and tested for Mediterranean diseases Character: very shy, timid and fearful, allows being stroked and human contact, freezes literally and cannot yet enjoy human contact, very kind and well-behaved, friendly, loves other dogs, plays very happily with them New home: definitely with a second dog or small pack, empathy, patience, no expectations, loving and consistent training, rural environment (no big city) with a securely fenced garden, quiet home without hustle and bustle, no children, ideally experience with anxious dogs, willingness to work with an experienced dog trainer if needed Adoption fee: 450 euros including transport costs to Germany This is me on the photos - the Whisky. Am I not a beautiful Podenco girl? Probably you will only really see that when I have more self-confidence. Right now I am just scared when a person approaches me and touches me. I let it happen, but I don't feel comfortable. I just close my eyes and hope it will be over soon. This fear is deeply rooted in me and comes from my past, which I had to spend without much human contact. Now I simply don't know that people can be nice. But I would really like to work on this, because it's not nice at all to be afraid. When I'm with my dog friends and play, I forget my fear and am a lively, happy girl. For this reason, it is essential that there is at least one fellow animal in the new home, ideally not as afraid as me. I want to trust people and am now looking for someone who supports me on this long and probably not easy path and discovers the world with me step by step. I must admit, I don't know anything about the world, and everything scares me at first. But please don't give up on me because of that. Where is my family? Ideally, they already have experience with anxious dogs, lots of love, patience, no expectations, the willingness to work with me and also accept setbacks and love me unconditionally. A securely fenced garden is a must, so I can't escape even out of panic. But I will still be able to go out in the garden only on a leash for a long time until I trust you. Who will give me the chance to become a normal dog? I promise you, it is incredibly fulfilling to help an anxious dog like me return to life.

About Whisky

What life with Whisky looks like

Whisky is a adult podenco dog waiting at Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) in Vilseck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Whisky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Whisky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Whisky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Whisky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Whisky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Whisky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Whisky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
