Kaat

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 3 years

Since she's been with us, Kaat observes from her safe spot on the scratching post, at a comfortable distance from all people and other cats... This little lady is a 3-year-old stray, so we have to guess about her background. We suspect she had a owner, but is not used to strange people or noise. She watches us closely from her favorite spot on the scratching post and stays at a distance. But we also see that she is slowly warming up to us and then really enjoys the contact. We are looking for a quiet household for her, with some experience with cats and no other animals. The most important thing is that she gets all the time to get used to us and the contact is built up step by step. In a quiet environment she will surely open up and develop into a friendly housemate. It would be great for Kaat if she could go outside in the future, we would like to give her a small garden or a place where she can get some fresh air. Kaat has few wishes. Her food, her drink, and a safe place from where she can explore the world. Are you curious about Kaat? Come and see if she will go with you!

NL·Show original

About Kaat

What life with Kaat looks like

Kaat is a small adult european shorthair cat waiting at Dierenasiel Utrecht in Utrecht.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kaat, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kaat?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Utrecht handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kaat on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kaat if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Utrecht will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kaat already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kaat isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Utrecht early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kaat and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
