Adopt Kai

Akita · Male · Young · 3 years

Kai is a beautiful akita male dog, 3 years old. He came to us after being given up due to the care becoming too much. Kai is simply sad to live both during the day and at night in a run with 2 other dogs. During his first 6 months of life, he was allowed to come in briefly, but unfortunately not anymore after that. Despite spending his entire life in the run, Kai is incredibly open, friendly, and loving here. We got to know Kai as a super enthusiastic and loving boy, a cuddle bear, and a friend for life! He is everyone's friend here, and other dogs are no problem for him either. Despite never really being out of the run, he walks so beautifully on a leash! We also see a boy who grows quickly in everything he undertakes and does his very best. Kai does not try to escape from the garden, the fence was approximately 1.80 meters high. Now, Kai is looking for his well-deserved golden bed. He can be tested with his own dog. He can be placed with children from 16 years and older. Kai is now looking for a home where he CAN be 100% part of the family because he deserves that. A life indoors, a warm spot, and a real family is what he truly looks forward to. Who can give our man a beautiful warm home? MEDICAL: Kai has entropion (inward-turning eyelid) that definitely needs to be addressed. We are looking for masters who will give him this care. Otherwise, Kai is in good medical condition.

Verder is Kai medisch in orde.

About Kai

What life with Kai looks like

Kai is a young adult akita dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus in Aalst.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kai, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kai?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kai on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kai if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kai already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kai isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kai and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
