Adopt Kai – Reserved

Akita · Unknown · Adult · 5 years

Meet Kai Kai is a striking boy, estimated to be between 3 and 5 years old. With his handsome looks and calm presence, he’s already won over the team while beginning to settle into rescue life. Kai was found straying with no microchip and sadly no one came forward to claim him, so very little is known about his past. Despite everything he has experienced, Kai has shown himself to be a friendly and good natured dog. He has been kind and gentle with staff, quietly taking in his new surroundings and gradually starting to relax. In kennels he can become quite excited and will jump up looking for attention, but this is simply enthusiasm and eagerness for interaction, with no concerning behaviours shown. Once out on walks, Kai visibly settles and enjoys exploring the world around him. He absolutely loves sniffing and taking in new scents, which is very typical Akita behaviour. At the start of a walk he can pull with excitement, but once relaxed he walks much more calmly. He has been walked along busy roads directly under the Heathrow flight path and took everything in stride, showing no concern about traffic or loud aircraft noise. Kai enjoys treats and knows how to sit when asked, although like many dogs in a new environment, he can become distracted by all the interesting smells around him. He responds well to gentle handling and petting, with no signs of sensitivity or discomfort when touched. Kai does notice other dogs while out and about, so sensible management and keeping respectful distance where needed would be recommended while he continues to build confidence and routine. Importantly, he remains manageable on lead and shows no issue passing other dogs closely when guided calmly. For this reason we would suggest that he needs to be the only dog in the household. Kai is a lovely young Akita with all the classic traits people love about the breed, intelligent, curious, loyal, and full of character. With standard Akita understanding and management, he has every potential to become a wonderful companion for a lucky adopter. He has shown no concerning traits in our care and is now ready to find a loving home of his own.

About Kai – Reserved

What life with Kai – Reserved looks like

Kai – Reserved is a adult akita dog waiting at Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kai – Reserved, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kai – Reserved?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kai – Reserved on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kai – Reserved if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kai – Reserved already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kai – Reserved isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kai – Reserved and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
