Kale

Male · Adult · 7 years

Kale came to us in March 2021 from some terrible place. For weeks, he didn't leave his kennel, convinced that the world was completely terrifying and nothing good awaited him. Someone somewhere taught him that people hurt, taught total submission and that there was no choice. During this time at our animal shelter, Kale has done titanic work to learn to look at the world with hope, to begin to trust. He bravely practiced approaching us, bravely endured human gazes, trained for walks, although for many months even a falling branch from a tree could scare him so much that he would run to his kennel. We began to discover that this frightened dog actually likes new tasks and really wants to establish contact with us, and failures and fear do not close him down but motivate him. Over time, he gained many canine friends on the yard, and it turned out that when there is silence in the animal shelter, Kale joyfully barks, sweeping his black tail and inviting other dogs to play. That moment when he first ran across the field behind the animal shelter, so happy, with his hair flying, was a huge experience for us. Luck in misfortune, Kale injured his paw and in September 2024, to recover, he was transferred to a temporary home. Here he is making colossal progress every day. He has learned to walk on a leash, which seemed impossible to us under shelter conditions. It is very hard for him here because the traffic in the middle of Warsaw completely terrifies him, nevertheless we train every day. Great support for him are the dogs he lives with. We are looking for a home for Kale in a quiet area and definitely with canine companionship. Kale is gentle, shy, and well-behaved. He has already undergone such a great transformation and endured so many changes, that we believe he will use every chance that fate gives him. Kale przyjechał do nas w marcu 2021 z jakiegoś koszmarnego miejsca. About Kale

What life with Kale looks like

Kale is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires quiet environment, needs canine companionship, fear of traffic and loud noises

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kale, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kale?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kale on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kale if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kale already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kale isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kale and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
