Kalea

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

At the animal shelter since: December 2022 Estimated age: born around April 2017 Estimated shoulder height: about 50 – 59 cm Get to know Kalea in another video! Kalea, a gentle beauty with growing courage! This furry nose comes from a killing station in Romania. We explain how the dogs end up there and much more in our animal protection FAQ. Kalea is a sensitive female dog who has shown great development step by step recently. Initially, she sought a lot of protection in her hut, but now she remains calm even with visitors and attentively observes what is happening around her. In a familiar environment, especially during her time at a Romanian foster home, it became clear what potential she has. There, she followed her primary caregiver into the garden, oriented herself strongly towards the only dog, played, explored the surroundings, and reliably took treats from the hand. With patience, she allowed herself to be stroked more and even got used to a harness. Kalea is curious and at the same time cautious. She consciously chooses a distance that feels safe for her and remains calm and observant at all times. She gets along very well with other dogs, is not food jealous and likes to orient herself towards confident fellow animals. For Kalea we are looking for a quiet, ideally rural home with experienced and patient people who meet her with understanding and empathy. A confident only dog could be a support for her, as she strongly orients herself towards fellow animals and gains security from them. We wish for this furry nose people who are aware that rescue dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany. Therefore, we are looking for people who have patience, perseverance and goodwill. But one thing is certain: Whoever adopts instead of buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, please read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas and neutered (the exception are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than one year are additionally tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you still have questions, feel free to send a message to our adoption team.

About Kalea

What life with Kalea looks like

Kalea is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kalea, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kalea?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kalea on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kalea if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kalea already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kalea isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kalea and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
