Kalia

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Kalia, a friendly and people-oriented female dog, was rescued from the streets of Romania and taken in by the animal shelter. She lived near a factory site and showed herself friendly and open when caught. More information about how dogs come to the shelter and answers to general questions can be found in our animal welfare FAQ. Kalia is still new to the shelter. So far, she has shown herself to be an open, friendly, and curious dog who is very oriented towards humans and seeks their proximity. She enjoys being stroked and enjoys attention. She also likes to climb onto laps. She approaches new situations cautiously and thoughtfully at first, but remains attentive and responsive. She allows herself to be easily fitted with a harness and collar, and Kalia enjoys trips to the dog playground. She also shows herself friendly and respectful to other dogs, although contact with humans is clearly more important to her. Our caregivers take the time to get to know and assess each dog. When we know more about the character of this furry one, we will supplement this profile. Of course, you can still fill out a self-disclosure for this dog. We want people for this furry one who are aware that animal shelter dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict in the shelter how a dog will react to life in Germany. That's why we're looking for people who bring patience, perseverance and goodwill. But one thing is certain: Whoever adopts instead of buys not only gives a second chance to an animal, but actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are thinking of adopting, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered before departure (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, please feel free to send a message to our placement team.

About Kalia

What life with Kalia looks like

Kalia is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kalia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kalia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kalia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kalia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Kalia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kalia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kalia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
