Adopt Kalle

Male · Young · 3 years

Kalle is a lively and athletic Staffordshire Terrier who came to our animal shelter as a security dog at the beginning of the year. Despite his past, he is open to people and full of energy. He loves exercise, mental stimulation, and shared activities – but he also brings plenty of strength and temperament with him. The handsome male dog has had little basic training so far. Therefore, intensive work on his orientation towards people, impulse control, and reliable leadership is still necessary. Kalle needs clear rules, consistency, and people who can give him security without being unfair or frantic. We are also currently training him to wear a muzzle. Kalle is only moderately compatible with other dogs. He generally does not like male dogs, and his feelings towards female dogs are based on their individual personalities. Therefore, he is only being offered as a single dog. Other household pets should also not live in the new home. For Kalle, we are looking for experienced dog owners, ideally with knowledge of handling powerful and demanding breeds. Patience, time, and the willingness to continue working consistently with him are prerequisites. Children should not live in the household. Since Kalle is a so-called listed dog, interested parties should inform themselves about the respective legal regulations of their state before applying. Those who can provide Kalle with the necessary leadership and structure will receive an active, loyal companion who still has a lot to learn and has the potential to become an excellent partner.

About Kalle

What life with Kalle looks like

Kalle is a young adult dog waiting at Tierheim Krefeld in Krefeld.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kalle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kalle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Krefeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kalle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kalle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Krefeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kalle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kalle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Krefeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kalle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
