Kan

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy

Kan is a friendly male German Shepherd located in our partner animal shelter, Hogar de Asís, seeking a new home with enthusiasts of this wonderful breed, with whom he can grow into an inseparable team. Kan was once a beloved social companion and lived with an elderly gentleman who raised and cared for him well. It is evident that he most likely enjoyed a good upbringing, as Kan possesses basic commands like "sit" and walks quite well on a leash. Unfortunately, Kans' owner passed away unexpectedly, and none of his children felt capable of taking care of their father's loyal friend, leading them to surrender him to the Perrera. From there, Kan moved into the care of our animal protection colleague Tere in April 2026, who is a big German Shepherd fan. And one thing we can confirm: she has never regretted it! Over the years, many German Shepherds and their mixes have been at Hogar de Asís, but none have been quite like Kan, his caretaker enthusiastically reports. Kan consistently shows himself to be amiable, social, clingy, trainable, and playful—in short, a dream dog. He loves interacting with humans and possesses the typical "will to please." His great potential as a versatile German Shepherd was evident during an outing to the city of La Carolina, where he naturally got into the car, walked on a leash through the streets, encountered cars and people, and even went into a copy shop, becoming the star. We have numerous videos from his outing and many other situations that we would be happy to share with you upon request. Kan lives together with his friend Luo, another German Shepherd who has been waiting in the animal shelter for almost three years, in one of the larger outdoor runs. Let's hope that Kan does not meet the same fate. In the mornings, while cleaning the run facility, all dogs are allowed outside in the large play area, where he gets along well with all the other dogs. Due to his imposing stature, some of the smaller dogs are sometimes a bit afraid of him.

DE·Show original

About Kan

What life with Kan looks like

Kan is a extra-large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
