Kaninchen Alva

Female · Baby

On February 24, 2026, Alva arrived at our animal shelter together with several other giant rabbits through a larger rescue. Like many of the other animals, Alva had not had a good life up until then. She was used as a breeding rabbit for years and had to raise several litters per year. The effects of this stress were clearly visible: her teats were severely damaged, she suffered from milk stasis, a thickened milk duct, and painful and ruptured teats. A life full of pain and deprivation, all for the rearing of countless baby rabbits. Since her arrival with us, Alva has finally been able to rest. She was neutered, medically treated multiple times, and received the necessary pain therapy. To recover from the hardships of her previous life, she was initially housed individually, so she could come into her own at her own pace and gather strength. Now, Alva is ready for a new chapter. She wishes for a loving home without expectations, without pressure, and without stress. People who give her time, build trust, and give her the peace she so deserves are ideal. An ideal home would have a similarly calm and balanced companion animal that does not pressure her and provides her with security. We unfortunately do not know Alva's exact age. We estimate our doe to be around 4 to 5 years old, born roughly in 2021. After everything she has experienced, we especially wish for Alva that she can finally experience what a protected and loved rabbit life feels like. If you are interested in Alva, please contact us with photos and measurements of her enclosure.

About Kaninchen Alva

What life with Kaninchen Alva looks like

Kaninchen Alva is a large puppy/kitten rabbit waiting at Tierheim Elmshorn in Elmshorn.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kaninchen Alva, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kaninchen Alva?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Elmshorn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kaninchen Alva on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kaninchen Alva if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Elmshorn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kaninchen Alva already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kaninchen Alva isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Elmshorn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kaninchen Alva and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
