Kapitän Jack

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Kapitän Jack was finally rehomed in September 2016 as a second dog to another former dog of ours. Both live with former staff members and enjoy the idyllic village life with child and cat...have fun, family! ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………… My name is Kapitän Jack. I am male, neutered, microchipped and born around 2013. I have been waiting for a new home since February 2016. I am about 55 cm tall. This is what my caregivers say about me: Kapitän Jack was surrendered to us due to illness. He has no fear of people, he is very happy when visitors come and shows it with full body enthusiasm. He is also an exception vocally, usually accompanied by cheerful squeaks and songs. He still has colorful playdough in his head, he got his name because of the somewhat messy Jack Sparrow, who can entertain and make his audience laugh well. The leash works perfectly, he loves walks and work on lead training is still needed. Respect towards people is also something that must be worked on, patience until bonding and controlled off-lead time in their own yard if available in the new home must be brought along. He wants to be always there and makes it loudly clear when he observes humans in his surroundings. A secure accommodation must be provided, which is unnecessary for apartment living. Jack must be consistently and lovingly introduced to all environmental stimuli, the basics of dog training can be learned together with Jack in a nice dog training class. Since he quickly gains trust in his trusted people, it will certainly be fun to show Jack his new world and his new life. We are convinced he will be enthusiastic about it...other animals are not a problem, rather an advantage if compatible, other animals would need to be tested. We have the impression that he feels more comfortable in company and can relax faster, especially in unfamiliar environments. Kapitän Jack is looking for active people who feel confident they can dedicate enough patience to him to later give him the freedom he enjoys. He loves playing and running around with other dogs, and we would like interested parties who take him as a second dog or have enough dog friends nearby. He will reward you with his trust and care for your figure for life...because only couch is not with Jack, he wants to really start off in his new life.... The descriptions are impressions and recordings of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal may develop differently in its new home.

About Kapitän Jack

What life with Kapitän Jack looks like

Kapitän Jack is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kapitän Jack, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kapitän Jack?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kapitän Jack on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kapitän Jack if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kapitän Jack already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kapitän Jack isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kapitän Jack and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
