Karamel

Mixed Breed · Male

Karamel came to us from his original owner, who no longer wanted to care for him. Upon arrival, he had a hotspot on his left thigh that needed to be treated. At first, he was stressed by the new environment and did not enjoy handling. However, he gradually gained confidence, got used to us, and now handles regular handling without problems. He needs a muzzle for veterinary procedures. Karamel is a young, playful, and active dog. He loves walks and always looks forward to them. He walks nicely on a leash, so you can enjoy your time outside with him. He does not show much interest in toys yet. He chooses dogs based on sympathy and prefers calmer dog friends. He gets along well with females. It is best to introduce a potential dog partner in advance. He has good hygiene habits when regularly walked. He behaves well indoors and does not destroy things. Karamel is looking for a home in an apartment or a family house with full access inside. He is suitable for a family with older children. He is a young dog who needs regular exercise, walks, contact with people, and calm, consistent guidance. The beginning was not easy for him, but he showed that when given time and the opportunity to get used to it, he can gain confidence. Now he needs his people and a home that he will not have to change again.

Psov si vyberá podľa sympatií a lepšie mu vyhovujú pokojnejší psí kamaráti. S fenkami vychádza bez problémov. Prípadného psieho parťáka bude najlepšie vopred individuálne zoznámiť. Pri pravidelnom venčení má hygienické návyky. Vo vnútri sa správa slušne a veci neničí. Karamel si hľadá domov v byte alebo v rodinnom dome s úplným prístupom dovnútra. Vhodný je do rodiny so staršími deťmi.

About Karamel

What life with Karamel looks like

Karamel is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at ÚVP Košice in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karamel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karamel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ÚVP Košice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karamel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karamel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ÚVP Košice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karamel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karamel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ÚVP Košice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karamel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
