Karden

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Karden - A gentleman in his prime seeks a quiet home for his heart. Karden is a lovable, older dog with a big heart and fine character. At eleven years old, he is among the seniors, but he is top fit and enjoys his daily walks - preferably at a leisurely pace and with plenty of time to sniff and linger. He measures about 48 centimeters, is house trained, enjoys car rides and proves to be an absolutely pleasant housemate. Karden currently lives in a household and knows how to behave there - unobtrusive, quiet and reliable. He spent his life for over ten years faithfully by his humans. But fate did not mean well with him: After his owner passed away, Karden was not kept by his owner. So he lost not only his home, but also the person his heart belonged to. And now he waits - a little lost, but full of hope - to be able to arrive again. Karden is a real "gentleman dog" and is looking for people with patience, empathy and understanding for his quirks. He is extremely tolerant with other dogs, shows himself social and friendly, even if he sometimes mounts unfamiliar males - a habit that probably has to do with missing castration and uncertainty, but only shows itself with unfamiliar dogs. Due to his age, we would not want to subject him to a castration anymore. In unfamiliar situations, Karden needs time. He does not like to be touched at first, especially not by strangers. What he needs is a quiet household, ideally without children - even if he currently lives with a child and copes with it as long as he is simply left alone. With a little patience, understanding and a leash in the beginning, trust can be built slowly but sustainably. And when this trust is once there, Karden shows what really is in him: A loyal, loving companion who loves his people above all else. His gaze may not be clear anymore due to his age, but his heart sees all the more clearly. Is there someone out there who gives Karden the chance to spend his twilight years in safety and security? Someone who welcomes him with open arms, gives him time to arrive and together with him discovers the great happiness of quiet, steady love? Karden is waiting. For his new chapter. For his people. For you.

DE·Show original

In unbekannten Situationen braucht Karden Zeit. Karden wartet. Auf sein neues Kapitel. Auf seine Menschen. Auf dich.

About Karden

What life with Karden looks like

Karden is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karden, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karden?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karden on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karden if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karden already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karden isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karden and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
