Origin Country: Hungary This beautiful female dog has been named Karenina. There is no known background about her. She was found at the entrance of a farm on March 24, 2022, and the residents were so kind and informed the Menhely. The staff intervened, and Karenina could be secured. During the microchip check, nothing was found, and she was not reported missing. Unfortunately, another large farm rescue mix at the Menhely, for which it is so difficult to find an appropriate home. We are crossing our fingers that Karenina will soon be able to exchange the animal shelter for her own home. Karenina is a nice, friendly, but also independent personality. She is quite agile and likes to move around. She needs some time to fully trust a person, which requires time, patience, and dog experience. Karenina is a great and proud female dog and it still takes her some time to give in to the leadership and let people lead. In her past, she was probably often left to her own devices and had to make independent decisions, which also explains her independence. Karenina walks well on a leash, but she also needs to be consistently and lovingly taught the rest of the dog ABCs. Karenina needs a rural environment; she does not belong in the city. A large garden is a must. She still does not get along well with her fellow animals, but more work is being done with her in this area. She is looking for a home as a single princess. For our wonderful Karenina, only sunshine should now shine. She is looking for knowledgeable and breed-experienced people who will lead her through the rest of her life with love and consistency, understanding, valuing, and cherishing the nature and character traits of these dogs. Karenina would like to have a task, enjoy beautiful and varied walks, get lots of cuddles, and be fully family-oriented. Who will show Karenina what she is capable of? A voluntary Hungarian helper writes on June 10, 2024: "Karenina has been at the animal shelter for 2 years but was only at the mentor day for the first time. Her mentor gave her an exciting, thorough walk. Karenina and her mentor immediately developed a friendship. Karenina was friendly, nice, and enjoyed the cuddles and pampering. After she was out of the pen, she energetically set off on her journey and could finally enjoy the freedom, nature, and movement she so desperately needs. Active, full of the desire for love and the desire for knowledge. She walked well on the leash, paid attention to her leader, and when I, for example, asked her to stay and take a photo, Karenina immediately followed her mentor's wish. Clever, learnable, trying to please. She is beautiful. Karenina is waiting for her new owner and her family. A large garden is indispensable. She wishes to be received with respect and love in her last home, which provides security. She would be delighted with regular daily walks, activities, and happy experiences. On mentoring days, she is the first to go for a walk because of her friendly mentor. She is admired by many because she is so beautiful. Additionally, she is very people-oriented, child-friendly, and friendly. She walks well on the leash, enjoys nature, the contact with people, and is very active. We hope that Karenina will soon find her place in life with someone who will accompany her with patience and love." A voluntary Hungarian helper writes on November 16, 2025: "Karenina has been a resident of the animal shelter for three and a half years. Every Saturday, she goes for a walk with her mentor. They have become very good friends. In addition, she is delighted with the affection and cuddles from all the mentors she meets during the walks. Karenina is a friendly, people-oriented, heart-warming, and loving female dog. She loves cuddles and the care of her fur. She is the favorite of all mentors and brings great joy to anyone who sees this beautiful female dog. Karenina is a well-balanced dog and walks very well on the leash. During the walks, she behaves calmly in all situations. Only the deer or wild boar she sees during the walk bring her briefly out of her calm. So far, she has regularly walked with Jenci, but recently she has been walking with the neighbor's pen mate Rotring. She is therefore also compatible with other dogs. Karenina is ready for travel. Ursprungsland: Ungarn Diese wunderschöne Hündin hat den Namen Karenina bekommen. Zu ihrer Vergangenheit ist nichts bekannt. Sie wurde am 24.3.2022 am Eingang eines Hofes gefunden, und die Bewohner waren so nett und informierten das Menhely. Die Mitarbeiter rückten aus, und Karenina konnte gesichert werden. Bei der Chipkontrolle wurde man nicht fündig, und vermisst wurde sie auch nicht. Leider ein weiterer grosser Herdenschutzmischling im Menhely, für den es so schwierig ist, ein geeignetes Zuhause zu finden. Wir drücken Karenina fest die Daumen, dass auch sie bald das Tierheim gegen ein eigenes Zuhause tauschen darf. Karenina ist eine nette, freundliche, aber auch eigenständige Persönlichkeit. Sie ist recht agil und bewegt sich gerne. Sie braucht etwas Zeit, bis sie sich ganz auf einen Menschen einlässt, da sind Zeit, Geduld und Hundeerfahrung gefragt. Karenina ist eine tolle und stolze Hündin, und es fällt ihr noch schwer, die Führung abzugeben und sich vom Menschen führen zu lassen. In ihrer Vergangenheit war sie bestimmt oft sich selbst überlassen und musste eigenständig entscheiden, dazu steckt in ihr wohl noch Herdenschutzhund, was ihre Eigenständigkeit ebenso erklärt. Karenina läuft gut an der Leine, den Rest des Hunde-ABC muss auch sie noch konsequent, aber liebevoll beigebracht bekommen. Karenina braucht ein ländliches Umfeld, sie gehört nicht in die Stadt. Ein grosser Garten ist ein Muss. Mit ihren Artgenossen kommt sie inzwischen gut zurecht, sie ging regelmässig mit Hundekumpels gemeinsam spazieren. Aktuell lebt sie alleine in ihrem Kennel. Für unsere tolle Karenina soll von nun an nur noch die Sonne scheinen. Wir suchen Kenner und rasseerfahrene Menschen, die sie liebevoll, aber konsequent durch ihr weiteres Leben führen und das Wesen und die Charaktereigenschaften dieser Hunde verstehen, lieben und schätzen. Karenina möchte gerne eine Aufgabe haben, schöne und abwechslungsreiche Spaziergänge geniessen und täglich ganz viele Streicheleinheiten bekommen, voller Familienanschluss ist selbstverständlich. Update 23.07.2026: Seit über vier Jahren lebt Karenina nun im Tierheim, und jeden Samstag holt ihre engagierte Mentorin sie zum Spaziergang ab, die beiden sind gute Freunde geworden. In dieser Zeit hat Karenina grosse Fortschritte gemacht: Sie ist gut führbar, weder eigensinnig noch stur, läuft sehr schön an der Leine, passt sich dem Tempo ihrer Mentorin an und zieht kaum, meist geht sie ruhig neben ihr her. Unterwegs schnuppert sie ausgiebig, und ihr liebstes Hobby ist das Graben. In der Nähe anderer Hunde bleibt sie ruhig und aufmerksam, nur Rehe oder Wildschweine bringen sie kurz aus der Fassung. Fremden Menschen gegenüber ist sie deutlich offener geworden, bleibt aber wählerisch: Man muss ihr Zeit lassen, damit sie von sich aus Kontakt aufnimmt. Ist ihr jemand sympathisch, zeigt sie sich sehr freundlich und sanft, sie liebt Streicheleinheiten und geniesst auch die regelmässige Fellpflege. Auch Kindern gegenüber ist sie lieb. Bei den Mentorinnen und Mentoren ist sie ein Liebling. Dass in ihr Herdenschutzhund steckt, merkt man weiterhin: In ihrem Zwinger zeigt sie sich territorial, sobald eine fremde Person vorbeigeht. Genau deshalb braucht sie Menschen, die diese Veranlagung kennen und richtig damit umzugehen wissen. Karenina ist reisefertig.
