Adopt Karina

Female · Adult · 4 years

Origin / Location: Ubeda (Andalusia) Character: kind and friendly, initially somewhat reserved, relaxed, compatible with other dogs New home: patience, time, no expectations, house/garden/household Adoption fee: 250 euros including transport This is Karina, a female dog who had a very difficult start in life. The herding dog, born in January 2022 in Andalusia and about 70 cm tall, was born with completely deformed front legs and had little chance of ever walking. Fortunately, she was found by animal rescuers and several operations (ulnar osteotomy) have been performed to align her front legs so that she can walk and move independently. Surely she will never be the best hiking companion, but there is nothing standing in the way of a relaxed walk. Due to her long stay in the clinic, Karina is very people-oriented and has become dear to all the caregivers. We have also experienced her as very calm, warm-hearted, and balanced. She is initially rather shy towards strangers, but after a few minutes she was convinced otherwise and walked calmly with us. She enjoys quiet moments with people and also prefers relaxed individuals when it comes to dogs. She is actually very easygoing and would not make big demands on a new home. A garden where she can enjoy the sun and relaxed walks at her own pace would be the biggest gift. She just needs a forever home where she is accepted as a full family member. Since Karina is a herding dog, the acquisition should be carefully considered. A garden/yard/property is an absolute requirement. Likewise, you should already have experience with a dog of this breed and be aware of the character traits that can present new challenges. Karina can travel to Germany at any time fully vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, dewormed, and tested for Mediterranean diseases. If picking her up in Northern Bavaria is not a problem for you, we look forward to your meaningful inquiry. The behavior and character description of the dog is based on observations from us and the local shelter staff and refers exclusively to the local conditions.

About Karina

What life with Karina looks like

Karina is a large adult dog waiting at Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) in Vilseck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
