He just needs the right people to join him. 😄 His story began in Bosnia, where a family took in a pregnant stray dog. Instead of having her puppies born outside, the mom was allowed to give birth in safety and loving care. A large, colorful litter grew up - and one of them is Karl. 💙 The little guy grows up in family life and has already gotten to know a lot. He knows small children? He knows them. Cats? He knows them too. And even chickens and ducks are part of his little world. So Karl already has some nice experiences - he won't be fully trained, of course. 😉 He's a young dog who wants to play, discover, try things out and sometimes probably think something is a great idea when his humans think otherwise. Housebreaking, leash training, staying alone, recall and the entire dog alphabet need to be learned together and with patience. With his appearance, it's likely that Karl also has hunting dog genes. We don't know exactly which breeds were involved. But his future humans should be prepared that with increasing age, corresponding characteristics and interests may develop. Karl is therefore looking for people who don't just see a cute puppy, but who want to grow up with him and find out what a great dog is in this little guy. Who will make Karl's family life a forever family life and go on his next big adventure with him? 💙 .fusion-body .fusion-button Interest in an adoption? About Karl

What life with Karl looks like

Karl is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Nordic Strays e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karl, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karl?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Nordic Strays e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karl on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karl if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Nordic Strays e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karl already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karl isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Nordic Strays e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karl and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
