adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Karlo is a sensitive male dog who had to learn to cope with a situation that was completely overwhelming for him. When he arrived at the Public Shelter in Baia Mare, he was completely unsettled. The anesthesia, the unfamiliar environment, the noise, and the confinement—everything threw him off balance. Since then, for about 1.5 years, he has lived there, and one can see that this time has shaped him. He is now a bit more reserved than he was at the beginning, but there is still a friendly dog within him who longs for companionship. Karlo is approximately 7.5 years old and stands about 55 cm at the shoulder. He belongs to the medium-sized dogs and brings a beautiful, harmonious appearance with him. His short, light brown fur, his slender, elegant build, and his noble head give him a special presence. His dark eyes appear attentive and cautious but also curious and open to engaging with people. Toward people, Karlo is still reserved. He allows himself to be touched with time, patience, and calm behavior, but he still cannot fully enjoy proximity. Additionally, he shows respect for the harness, which indicates that many everyday situations are still unfamiliar to him. With the necessary calmness and understanding, he can make progress. Karlo gets along well with female dogs; he currently shares his run with no problems. How he reacts to male dogs has not yet been tested. Overall, he is social and orientates well when he feels safe. Due to his shortened testicles, an entry into Switzerland is unfortunately not possible. Karlo probably does not know life in a house. House training, leash manners, and consistent routines must be learned by him. With loving, consistent guidance and a lot of patience, he can gradually orient himself. Positive dog training classes can help after the adjustment period to give him security and build a bond with his people. For Karlo, we wish for a quiet, experienced home with people who understand his sensitive nature and give him the time he needs. He should not be left alone in the shelter but given the chance to build trust and find his place. We would also be very happy about a foster home, as it can be a crucial step from the shelter into a new life for Karlo. Karlo travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated with an EU pet passport to his new home.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About Karlo

What life with Karlo looks like

Karlo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karlo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karlo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karlo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karlo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karlo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karlo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karlo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
