Karolek

Male · Adult · 7 years

Karolek is a friendly, cheerful dog. Every time we approach his kennel to take him for a walk, he happily wags his tail and stretches his paw through the bars to greet us. Unfortunately, at the animal shelter he still does not feel well - during walks he can be scared and does not like to go too far from the animal shelter gate, sometimes looking back with concern... Only the company of another dog makes Karolek start walking happily ahead with his tail up and a sparkle in his eyes. You can see then that inside he is a joyful, curious guy who just needs a sense of security. The dog walks nicely on a leash, likes being petted and has no tendency to search for trash, so walking with him is a real pleasure! Unfortunately, Karolek is not a healthy dog. The examination showed that there are changes in his brain that cause neurological symptoms - the dog has a tilted head, sometimes circles to the right and lifts his paws high while walking, as if afraid of tripping over something. This disease cannot be cured, however, we have not observed the neurological symptoms getting worse so far - currently, Karolek functions at the animal shelter like any other dog, goes for walks and is friendly towards people and other dogs he knows. However, the future caregiver must be aware of the risk that the problem may progress in the future. Due to the illness, Karolek should not live with children. We also do not know how he will behave at home, so during the adoption process we recommend a home visit. Karolek to przyjacielski, pogodny psiak. About Karolek

What life with Karolek looks like

Karolek is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Neurological condition causing head tilt, circling behavior, and high-stepping gait. Condition is not curable but currently stable.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karolek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karolek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karolek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karolek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karolek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karolek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karolek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
