Kartoffel & Knödel

European Shorthair · Male · Kitten

Potato and Knödel were born outside and are still a bit scared of people. They already enjoy being fed and playing with people, but they still struggle with being petted. Human hands are just too creepy for them. It works best when both are lying a bit tired in their basket. But before they get tired, you need to bring enough endurance to play with them. Even during the game, you can occasionally let them stroke their hand over their fur so they get used to it. With such young cats, it usually works very well, but you have to stay on the ball and bring a lot of time and patience, especially in the beginning. We are very confident that they will soon lose their remaining fear and then let themselves be stroked by their owners. Later, outdoor access should be possible, but it's best to wait until after the castration. We don't want to separate them, because they are very attached to each other, groom each other and often lie closely entwined in the basket. DE·Show original

About Kartoffel & Knödel

What life with Kartoffel & Knödel looks like

Kartoffel & Knödel is a puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Darmstadt in Darmstadt.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kartoffel & Knödel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kartoffel & Knödel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Darmstadt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kartoffel & Knödel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kartoffel & Knödel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Darmstadt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kartoffel & Knödel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kartoffel & Knödel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Darmstadt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kartoffel & Knödel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
