Katja

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Katja is a 2025-born, spayed mixed breed dog who was found abandoned and brought to the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. She now lives in Upper Austria with 4 other dogs and 3 cats. In new situations, Katja is initially uncertain and needs some time to adjust. However, she quickly gains trust and really flourishes. Katja loves being outdoors. As soon as she is allowed to run in the garden or on the meadow, she gets the curiosity and exercise drive of a young dog and it's clear to see how much she enjoys her life. She shows herself as a cheerful, lively and playful dog. Katja is always in a good mood and always has a smile on her face. Katja is also very loving towards people. She doesn't just bond with one person, but is friendly and open to all people and animals quickly. She enjoys attention and is visibly happy about every positive experience. Katja integrates perfectly into an existing pack and loves to play, cuddle and groom her friend Loki, the sweet Chihuahua male. We can therefore also imagine placing her with her friend Loki, the sweet Chihuahua male together. Katja is also cat-friendly.

About Katja

What life with Katja looks like

Katja is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Austria in Wien.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Katja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Katja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Katja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Katja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Katja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Katja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Katja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
