Adopt Keeper

Border Collie · Male · Adult · 8 years

Keeper is a sensitive soul with a wonderfully playful and affectionate side that shines once he feels comfortable. He absolutely adores toys, especially balls and playing fetch, but he will need help learning when to stop playing. He’s a clever boy and enjoys a variety of enrichment activities, especially when he can revel in completing one! While he can be a little conflicted when meeting new people, his sweet nature comes through as he builds trust, and he forms lovely bonds with those who respect his boundaries. Keeper is an endearing mix of sensitivity and playfulness who will bring joy and companionship to the right home! Please note: If you already have an open adoption application and are interested in knowing if Keeper is a match, please let us know you are interested in him by emailing us on . Appointment slots are available from 12 - 5.30pm on Monday - Friday. Keeper is an 8-year-old Collie cross looking for gentle and patient owners who can meet him where he’s at. He will need to live in a quieter, low-traffic environment such as a rural or small residential area, with access to peaceful, sniffy walking routes where he can relax without the worry of passing cars. A secure garden is essential so he can enjoy outdoor time without stress, and a multi-person household would suit him best to gradually build up confidence with being left alone. He will need to be the only pet in the home but he could enjoy walks with fellow dog friends outside, following closely managed and slow introductions. Keeper would be happiest with patient adopters who are willing to continue his loose lead training and provide him with support and guidance to help him navigate the world at his own pace. He could live with sensible older children as long as they’re able to understand the importance of giving him space when needed, as he can feel overwhelmed by too much attention. This gentle boy needs a home that appreciates his sensitive nature and is ready to guide him kindly through his golden years.

About Keeper

What life with Keeper looks like

Keeper is a small adult border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Shoreham in Shoreham by Sea.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Keeper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Keeper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Shoreham handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Keeper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Keeper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Shoreham will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Keeper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Keeper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Shoreham early rather than rehoming privately; they know Keeper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
