Behind those beautiful eyes is a frightened little soul who has already experienced far more than any puppy ever should. Following a serious incident in her previous home, we were contacted and knew we had to act quickly. Thankfully, a kennel space became available just in time. But what greeted us was not the happy, excitable puppy we had been told about. Keiko arrived terrified. Confused. Overwhelmed. Shaking at loud noises and desperately unsure of the world around her. At just seven months old, her whole world has been turned upside down. Right now, kennel life is incredibly difficult for her. The noise, unfamiliar surroundings and constant activity are simply too much for such a sensitive young girl. Our kennel team and volunteers are doing everything they can to help her feel safe, but deep down we know what Keiko truly needs is not a kennel. βœ… She needs kindness. βœ… She needs patience. βœ… She needs peace. βœ… She needs someone willing to help her learn that the world is not such a scary place. We are urgently searching for a very special foster home where Keiko can begin to heal gently and safely, one small step at a time. 🏑 π™†π™šπ™žπ™ π™€β€™π™¨ π™›π™€π™¨π™©π™šπ™§ π™§π™šπ™¦π™ͺπ™žπ™§π™šπ™’π™šπ™£π™©π™¨: 🐾 Adult only home or teenagers aged 16+ 🐾 No other dogs or pets 🐾 Breed Experienced home 🐾 Someone around most of the day, she will struggle being left alone 🐾 Quiet home environment, not suitable for flats or busy areas 🐾 Secure garden with robust 6ft fencing Please understand that these stipulations are in place for a reason and for Keiko’s wellbeing. They are not open for debate. What we are looking for is not just a roof over her head. We are looking for someone with compassion in their heart. Someone who understands that frightened dogs do not need force or pressure, they need safety, consistency and love. Someone willing to help this beautiful little girl discover happiness again. About Keiko – Urgent Foster

What life with Keiko – Urgent Foster looks like

Keiko – Urgent Foster is a small puppy/kitten akita dog waiting at Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK in United Kingdom.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window β€” house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Keiko – Urgent Foster, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Keiko – Urgent Foster?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Keiko – Urgent Foster on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Keiko – Urgent Foster if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Keiko – Urgent Foster already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Keiko – Urgent Foster isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Keiko – Urgent Foster and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
