Keisha

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

We know nothing of 12-year-old Keisha's background as she arrived in our care as a former stray, but she's a very gentle and easy going older girl. She has tucked her paws well and truly under the table of a a foster home and is definitely looking for an easy, comfortable retirement. Keisha walks nicely on her lead, she's not a fan of the harness, and likes to stop and stare up people's driveways when she's out walking- maybe she was neighbourhood watch in her previous home! She happily says hello to other dogs and will walk nicely with them, even being fairly tolerant of boisterous dogs. She would be happy enough as the only pet at home, but may live with another gentle oldie. Keisha isn't an overly affectionate girl - she will happily greet her foster carer upon return and will let people give her a gentle fuss, but she's independent enough to take herself off when she's satisfied. Keisha has a cheeky side - she once took herself out of the front door and was absolutely thrilled with the zoomies that followed and especially the chickeny bribe that enabled her capture! She is wonderful company and would be perfect for someone who is looking to have a best friend again, perhaps to enjoy retirement together. Keisha can live with high school aged children and another calm dog if well matched. She is house trained and good when left by herself for a few hours. Keisha is currently on pain relief for a sore hip and, given her age, may need this for the rest of her life. She's also a little hard of hearing.

About Keisha

What life with Keisha looks like

Keisha is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Keisha, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Keisha?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Keisha on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Keisha if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Keisha already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Keisha isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Keisha and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
