Kenai

Male · Young · 3 years

Kenai is a puppy who is only 2 years old, but his life has already been quite difficult. Poor Kenai probably ended up with us after a car accident. X-rays showed a dislocation of the left hip joint with a probable fracture of the pelvic socket and a fracture of the pubic bone, so Kenai underwent orthopedic surgery, and his condition improved (although he still sometimes puts weight on his paw). Despite this, Kenai doesn't lose his good mood. During walks he runs, jumps and plays - sometimes more than he should, but that's the way of a young age ;-) He also loves sniffing and scent games. He is our sweet, group bear - soft and loving to people. Recently we have noticed a negative impact of the animal shelter on Kenai's behavior - the dog is becoming increasingly frustrated and stressed. There were situations in which when putting on a harness he tried to bite his volunteers, getting angry at the neighbor from the adjacent kennel. Kenai has started taking medication, which has greatly improved his well-being, and the dog now seems much calmer. This does not change the fact that he should leave the animal shelter as soon as possible! In addition, Kenai probably came from the village, so he is just learning to live in the city. The future adopters must have patience and awareness that the puppy will have to make up for these deficiencies. It is also good if they have experience in caring for terriers. Kenai has started going on Adoptuj Warszawiaka campaigns with us, where he does very well! He also visited a grooming salon, went on several trips with volunteers around Warsaw and its surroundings. We are trying to let him experience as much of city life as possible, and it must be said that we are doing well! Kenai is no longer afraid of getting into a car, recently he even traveled by bus, eagerly exploring new places. Outside the animal shelter, he relaxes beautifully. Our hearts break when we return him to the shelter kennel and watch how he chews his own tail from stress... Kenai is really asking for a home, spending time in the animal shelter is an especially difficult experience for him. PL·Show original

To nasz słodki, grupowy misio - mięciutki i kochający człowieka. About Kenai

What life with Kenai looks like

Kenai is a medium-sized young adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Hip dislocation surgery recovery, may favor one leg occasionally. Takes medication for stress management. Needs gradual city life adaptation.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kenai, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kenai?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kenai on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kenai if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kenai already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kenai isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kenai and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
