Keppe

Mixed Breed · Female · Kitten

Hi! I’m Keppe. Together with my brother Joske, I’m currently living in a foster home that’s also home to two other cats. When we first arrived here, we were absolutely terrified. We hid as best we could, flinching at every sound and every movement. Joske immediately took on the role of protector. If anyone got too close, he’d briefly show his teeth to make it clear we weren’t ready for contact yet. But as soon as things calmed down and no one was in the room, we came alive. Then we’d chase each other around, climb everywhere, and play as if the whole world belonged to us. Now, a month later, we’ve already made tremendous progress. I’m the smaller of the two of us, but don’t be fooled— I’m just as brave. First, I like to watch from a safe distance, observing everything happening around me. That’s helped me gain more and more confidence. In the meantime, I’ve already started to approach people more closely, and sometimes I even cautiously touch a hand or a foot. I also love to lie nearby, taking it all in at my own pace. I’m sure that given enough time, patience, and space, I might one day even snuggle up comfortably against you. Though right now, I’m not quite ready for that yet. Joske, on the other hand, absolutely loves other cats. He’d love nothing more than to invite them all over to play together. And Joske does it in a really clever—and adorable—way. First he’ll play nearby, then—oops!—he’ll suddenly roll onto his back, inching closer and closer to the other cat. It’s almost as if he’s saying, “Come join me!” It’s hard not to fall for that charm. I love other cats too, but I’m a bit more mindful of their boundaries. While Joske uses his cuteness to get closer and sometimes even tries playing with them, I’ll simply move as close as I can and then lie down quietly. Hopefully, that way they’ll trust me enough to eventually play with me too. As you can tell, we’re real little playmates. We chase each other around, play with balls, climb in the scratching post, and experience new adventures every single day. When we’re a bit older, we’d also love to explore a safe garden or outdoor space. We dream of a warm home where we can stay together—a place where we’ll have the time to fully blossom, without pressure and at our own pace. Every day, we’re making great strides, and we’re convinced that with a little patience and love, we’ll grow into two wonderful housemates. Maybe we could take that step together—with you?

Hoi! Toen we hier aankwamen, waren we ontzettend bang.

About Keppe

What life with Keppe looks like

Keppe is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Zwerfkat in Belgium.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Keppe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Keppe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Zwerfkat handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Keppe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Keppe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Zwerfkat will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Keppe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Keppe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Zwerfkat early rather than rehoming privately; they know Keppe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
