Adopt Kerry

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

loving, easy-going, cuddly The sweet Kerry is a completely charming canine. Trusting and gentle, she approaches us humans to reclaim the cuddles and love she so long lacked. We found her in the Smeura, where she was on the ward—her front leg unfortunately was beyond saving, and since then she’s been a charming three-legged wonder; ) We suspect she had a serious accident, but for us, it was clear that she deserved a spot in our shelter in Essen. And now she’s here, learning to live. Kerry manages with her missing leg quite well, really, she just needs people around her, she bonds very quickly and closely. She gets along well with the other dogs; she would never start trouble, but she doesn’t need them for her happiness. What she does need, however, are people by her side, into whom she can fully let herself go, because it’s clear: We’re going this way with Kerry! Even though her walks aren’t as long and her condition naturally limits her, Kerry is such a soul, she gives so much back. Who needs four legs? We can’t say for sure if she knows or likes cats. Kerry should ideally be placed in a ground-floor home, with her own garden where she can relax with her people. Anyone who would like to meet our Kerry can arrange to visit her in Essen.

About Kerry

What life with Kerry looks like

Kerry is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt in Essen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kerry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kerry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kerry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kerry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kerry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kerry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with 4animals e.V. — Hundeauffangstation HASt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kerry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
