Kiki

Unknown · Adult · 6 years

female cat Kiki was born around 2020 and came to us as a found cat. She was in a bad state, with matted fur, sniffling, and completely starved. At feeding time, she was immediately on the move and came right up, practically snatching it from our hands. Being touched or bothered did not please her at all; in fact, she went on the offensive in the small quarantine box. Even the attempt to integrate her into one of our cat groups after she had recovered failed. The proximity of the other cats nearly put her into a panic, which turned into self-defense. We had no other choice but to isolate her in one of our larger emergency boxes. Here, she has much more space—and what seems to be most important to her—peace and quiet! Now she is much more peaceful overall. She mostly lounges on the scratching post, but also enjoys affection when treats are offered. What must this poor cat have experienced to feel so compelled to defend and protect herself. She still does not appreciate hectic movements and observes everything you do. But she has also grown accustomed to us and has learned to retreat to her space, allowing her to take everything more calmly.

About Kiki

What life with Kiki looks like

Kiki is a adult cat waiting at Tierheim Paderborn in Paderborn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kiki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kiki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Paderborn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kiki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kiki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Paderborn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kiki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kiki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Paderborn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kiki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
