Kim

Doberman · Female · Young · 1 year

Kim had such a hard time settling into centre life and was thoroughly unhappy. She'd been surrendered due to attacking a sheep and suddenly she found herself without her family or surroundings that she knew. Thanks to our wonderful foster carers, we managed to secure Kim a temporary place in a home, which improved her situation almost immediately, and she just lives for a slice of toast! She seems to be a real worrier and the first thing she did was choose herself a safe space and then slept a lot, decompressing. Kim is very young, we believe a little less than two years old, and we know so little about her background or experiences. She has lived in a home, and although some household noises don't concern her, she is very anxious about others. Kim is house trained but if her signs are not read, she may have an accident. When first going into foster she had no interest in playing, but that changed when her ballie came out! She would carry it and roll it to her carer with joy that was so wonderful to see. Kimmy is going to be a work in progress and we are happy for adopters to take her for a trial period first. Allowing her the time she needs to feel secure in each environment and new situation she finds herself in will go a long way towards helping Kim recover. Her adopters must be committed to a slow process, but she's a very loving young dog and the payoff will be worthwhile. Kim is looking for a committed, child and pet free home and she will need a trial period to settle in before adoption. Alternatively, we are open to a "foster to adopt" situation. She must never be off lead around livestock.

About Kim

What life with Kim looks like

Kim is a young adult doberman dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kim, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kim?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kim on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kim if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kim already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kim isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kim and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
