Kira

Female · Young · 1 year

AGE: 1 year (*16.9.2024) Weight: 28 kg Kira is a crossbreed of an American Staffordshire Terrier, who came to the shelter as a rescued female dog with a difficult beginning. She has traveled so much that she finally ended up with us. 💛 Temperament and behavior: Kira is a kind and social female dog who likes people and can be with children. She loves walks with all the walkers - at first she may pull happily on the leash, but after a while she calms down and walks nicely. 🐕 Getting along with other animals: She has stronger hunting instincts and is not tolerant of dogs, so we are looking for a home ideally as a single pet. A female dog definitely cannot be. It cannot be ruled out that she may sit with one of the dogs, but great caution is needed and we must test everything individually if necessary. She apparently handles cats. However, it is necessary to take into account that she guards her food very carefully. 🏡 Home and adaptation: In a new environment, the beginning can be more challenging - she is a young female dog who has never had a proper home, so she may be confused at first, not knowing where she belongs... in the first days she had a tendency to run away, so a secure space and patient approach will be needed. At our shelter she sometimes "nips" the house, so it is good to take this behavior into account as well. 🚶 Additional information: She is manageable on a leash. She is clean in the kennel. She reacts (sometimes quite noticeably 😄) to lawnmowers, tractors, etc. ❤️ Who we are looking for: An experienced and patient person who does not immediately look for a perfect dog and gives her time to get used to everything new. Kira is very kind, she just needs to know that she belongs somewhere and that no one will leave her again. If Kira has interested you, please fill out the adoption questionnaire and we will contact you back. Warning: The description of the dog is based on its behavior shortly after arriving at the shelter. We try to place dogs in the availability as soon as possible, so they can start looking for a new home as quickly as possible. However, the dog's behavior may change gradually during its stay with us, so we try to continuously update the information and labels. However, our time options are limited, so the labels may not always reflect the current situation immediately. Please also keep in mind that the dog's behavior may differ in a home environment than in the shelter.

Pokud vás Kira zaujala, prosíme o vyplnění adopčního dotazníku a my vás budeme zpětně kontaktovat.

About Kira

What life with Kira looks like

Kira is a large young adult dog waiting at Útulek Dogsy in Czech Republic.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇿Adopting from Czech Republic

Czech shelters (útulky) include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID. The adopter signs a written contract (smlouva) — the shelter may follow up to verify wellbeing.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Útulek Dogsy handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Útulek Dogsy will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Útulek Dogsy early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (CS). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
