Kira

Podenco · Female

Kira has just arrived from the animal shelter, and like many of the dogs there, we know nothing about her past. We can only imagine what she might have gone through, but we do know exactly who she is now—and all that she has to offer. She’s a medium-sized dog, slender and incredibly beautiful, with a sweet little face that combines curiosity with just a hint of insecurity. At first, Kira is timid and somewhat nervous; it takes her a few days to start trusting this new environment. Even so, she never once shows any sign of aggression. She’s absolutely wonderful. Despite that initial fear, Kira has something truly special: she’s pure joy. Once she starts feeling a bit more relaxed, those moments emerge when she simply can’t contain her happiness and bursts into little jumps of excitement. She’s so playful that sometimes we can’t even capture her on video because she won’t stay still for a second! She gets along well with other dogs, and little by little, she’s starting to reveal her true personality: a cheerful, affectionate dog full of enthusiasm and eager to enjoy the life she hasn’t had yet. Kira needs a family that understands her pace, that offers her security and patience. We know that as soon as she feels loved, that fear will fade away and give way to an incredible companion—one who’ll fill the home with life and energy.

ES·Show original

About Kira

What life with Kira looks like

Kira is a medium-sized adult podenco dog waiting at Protectora Malaga in Málaga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Malaga handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Malaga will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Malaga early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
