Adopt Rox

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 5 years

Where are the Rottweiler enthusiasts for our beautiful Rox? Rox used to live on a balcony, eagerly awaiting walks with his master. He follows his whims day by day. If he's not motivated, he prefers to rest, but when he wants to play, he's a real softie. He also loves to bathe, whether in rivers or... in the city fountains where he feels like a fish in water. In the city, he loves saying hello to everyone. Rox is very affectionate with those he loves and knows how to be faithful and endearing. He adores cuddles and moments of intimacy, but also enjoys playing gently. On the education front, Rox knows the basic commands like "sit," "lie down," "you're dead," "at your feet," and "on a leash." He can be a bit stubborn and requires a bit of persistence to listen. Without stimuli and with a framework, he is manageable on a leash, but remains powerful, so a strong man or woman will be welcome. With other dogs, he plays with enthusiasm, sometimes a bit roughly, especially with females, so an appropriate playmate of similar size will be needed. We will avoid placing him with dominant males. Rox is a second-category dog looking for a patient and experienced family willing to offer him the structure and love he needs. He will not be placed with beginners because he needs a reference who understands the breed and its specific needs. Rox is a second-category dog but this in no way means he is dangerous. * For the owner, who must have: - a clean record and the certification for owning first and second-category dogs * For the dog (it's done): - the behavioral test (level 2) and a passport + rabies vaccine Rox must be registered with the city hall and have insurance for second-category dogs. For his adoption, we require in addition a very well-fenced garden. Since the dog must be muzzled outside the premises, we will not accept an apartment placement. The future adopter must be the owner of their home to avoid problems during a move. Rox lived several years on a balcony in a cité, not knowing much. He is a dog who attaches himself greatly to a person and does not calculate the other family members. Ideally, it would be a single person with experience with Rotts. Young children should be avoided. Since he has been at the shelter, he has attached himself to one of our educators who can do anything for him as you can see in the video. There will be a period of adaptation with his new family. That's why we are looking for a placement not too far from the shelter so that people can come several times to work with him and our educator. It will not be possible to come and take him away.

About Rox

What life with Rox looks like

Rox is a extra-large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Sans Collier Provence in France.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rox, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rox?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Sans Collier Provence handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rox on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rox if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Sans Collier Provence will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rox already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rox isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Sans Collier Provence early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rox and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
