Adopt Ulysse

Pointer · Male · Young · 2 years

Ulysse was abandoned very young, his former owner could not take care of him. He arrived with hairless patches and quite thin. Despite this difficult start, he is now in good health and is looking for a family ready to offer him patience and love. A lovely energetic companion, he loves going for walks, even though he sometimes pulls on the leash when excitement takes over. With a little training, he already knows the commands "sit," "lie down" and has a good start at "come." Curious, he often has his nose to the ground to explore all the smells around him. Friendly with other animals of the same species, he still has trouble understanding canine signals, which can make meetings a bit tense, especially with dogs with strong characters. He can become tense and cause a fight unintentionally (he shows off). With humans, however, he is a love: once he trusts, Ulysse is a real cuddle bug, always happy to see us and showing his happiness by wagging his tail. He can however be scared when he doesn't know and bark to keep strangers away. Energetic, he loves to move and especially play with the ball, which helps him channel his energy. He also likes to play with us a lot, but can get excited quickly, so you have to tell him "stop" to calm him down. Ulysse is a true heart on legs who, with patience and kindness, will bring joy and pride to his future masters. A beautiful adventure full of tenderness and understanding awaits!

About Ulysse

What life with Ulysse looks like

Ulysse is a large young adult pointer dog waiting at Sans Collier Provence in France.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ulysse, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ulysse?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Sans Collier Provence handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ulysse on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ulysse if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Sans Collier Provence will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ulysse already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ulysse isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Sans Collier Provence early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ulysse and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
