Kiwi

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 2 years

Kiwi and her siblings have been at the animal shelter Odai since May 2024. Papaya and Mango were found on a field near our shelter in Bucharest. There was a third puppy, Kiwi, who was caught a few days later. The three puppy siblings were initially allowed to settle into their own pen to get used to their new environment and the volunteers and caretakers. But mainly, to ensure they didn’t spread or contract any existing illnesses. At first, all three were very scared, but they soon got used to the calm environment. However, Kiwi and her siblings were convinced that only good things were happening to them, and all three allowed themselves to be carried to the dog play area. There, they enjoyed their pen break and ran and played to their hearts’ content. Now, all three puppy siblings have routine and are happy when they get more running room. Kiwi now allows herself to be stroked and cuddled and enjoys the attention from the volunteers. She loves it when the harness comes out, because she knows that means it’s time to go to the dog play area! Kiwi is currently learning to walk on a leash and is always excited when she gets her playtime at the dog play area. There, she runs, plays, is caught with the other dogs, and is cuddled by the volunteers.

About Kiwi

What life with Kiwi looks like

Kiwi is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kiwi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kiwi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kiwi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kiwi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kiwi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kiwi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kiwi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
