Klausi

Cane Corso · Male · Young · 3 years

Details Animal Name: Klausi Breed: Cane Corso Gender: Male Date of Birth: ca. 2018 Height/Weight: ca. 48 kg, over 50 cm Origin: Owner surrender ID: F66/21 Description: Update: Handlers for Klausi must have knowledge of handling difficult dogs. We have featured Klausi, just like Bärbel, on our Instagram profile multiple times because they have both been with us since early February 2021. That’s 3 full years! 3 years without a home. 3 years without daily cuddles on the sofa with their two-legged family. 3 years without daily walks. 3 years of animal shelter stress, which, despite the greatest loving efforts of our care staff, cannot be completely prevented. Klausi is “one of the loud ones” in his enclosure when visitors pass by and might give the impression: “Just get away, he’s too aggressive.” But he also has a different side. Klausi is super cuddly, enjoys every cuddle moment he can get, which is unfortunately much less here at the animal shelter than at home. He is also a little “Mäckeltante.” For example, he doesn’t like wet food and is okay going out in the rain, but as soon as he has to walk through a puddle, he will seek another way. Because: “Mud on his paws? Ew!” But dogs with character are amusing and unique. He was born around 2018, an unneutered male Cane Corso, and lives with his mother, Bärbel, in an enclosure at the shelter. His compatibility with other dogs depends a lot on their liking, but he gets along much better with female dogs. The two can go out individually or together. Unfortunately, both have restrictions and can only be led with a muzzle and leash. Both are familiar with the muzzle. Klausi walks relatively well on a leash, but with his ca. 53 kg, he can also be quite impressive. Therefore, we are looking for stable, dog-experienced people. Klausi was rehomed by us once before, adapted well to the “new person,” and quickly bonded. Unfortunately, Klausi suffers from hip problems and should not have to climb many stairs in his new home. A dream for him would be a ground-level large apartment with a garden, as Klausi loves sunbathing. Additionally, the big guy also has ear problems, which we managed to control well after an operation, but still require monitoring and treatment. Are you stable people who have fallen for Klausi? Then contact us at the animal shelter for a comprehensive consultation (a contribution is never enough!). We look forward to serious inquiries! Do you have friends who are Cane Corso enthusiasts? Share Klausi and increase the reach so that the right people can fall in love with him! More photos Video Uploaded: 2021-02-12 09:39Last Update: 2026-03-26 12:

About Klausi

What life with Klausi looks like

Klausi is a large young adult cane corso dog waiting at Tierschutz Hildesheim und Umgebung e.V. in Hildesheim.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Klausi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Klausi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Hildesheim und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Klausi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Klausi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Hildesheim und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Klausi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Klausi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Hildesheim und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Klausi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
