Klausi

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

"Uncertain, fluffy giant baby" Breed: mixed breed (likely herding breed) Date of Birth: May 2023 Height: just over knee-high Gets along with dogs: yes, after a get-to-know phase Has children in the same household: no Home sought: house with a garden in the countryside The dear, 2023-born mixed-breed male dog Klausi was found abandoned at our animal shelter and apparently hadn't learned much before then. Through loving and consistent training, Klausi has gained some self-confidence. Now, Klausi is very curious and can also show his lively and playful side. Klausi needs a get-to-know phase with people and dogs. His trusted people love him, and he gets very excited like a giant baby when he sees them. Since this can sometimes be very stormy, they need to be very steadfast. With new people and dogs, his preference is decided by their sympathy, and he closely follows his trusted people. Social walks in small groups work well. He loves water and will always want to go wherever it's nearby. Agility equipment finds him very exciting. Whether tunnels or A-frames, he is enthusiastic about everything, as long as he can do something with his people. Also on the leash, Klausi is very well-behaved. Klausi unfortunately has a resource issue. Whether it's food or toys, if this is really exciting, he is also ready to defend it. Unfortunately, there was also a biting incident. While he clearly communicates this and is willing to engage in trade if a trusting relationship is established, an own room or at least an own separated area in his future home is a prerequisite. We are looking for a home in the countryside with a garden for Klausi with people who have herding dog experience or experience with dogs that defend resources.

About Klausi

What life with Klausi looks like

Klausi is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Klausi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Klausi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Klausi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Klausi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Klausi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Klausi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Klausi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
